Article Marketing Where to Find Awesome Article Ideas Your Audience Will Love

Article Marketing - Where to Find Awesome Article Ideas Your Audience Will Love
By Lisa Sparks

The most common question I come across these days is, Where do I get inspiration for article ideas? Frankly, ideas can come to you while youre walking down the street. A recent study revealed that you get your best ideas while your mind is at rest. So when you're riding the bus, driving to work, walking the dog or even reading the newspaper, that article idea will bubble right up to the surface. Youre ready to write.

That sounds a bit simplistic, but it happens just that way for me. I believe that it's not just about resting. You need to give your mind what I call article idea fuel so that when you are ready for a new idea your brain will have something to draw on, something to bring you.

That's why research is so important. Here are a few places I go and things I do to keep my finger on the pulse of my chosen industries:

  • Conduct ezine subscriber surveys.

  • Monitor Web search results.

  • Attend networking events.

  • Visit forums and chat groups.

  • Read industry magazines, books and info products.

  • Of the ways I just mentioned, forums and chat rooms are the quickest places to get ideas. Whatever your industry, it likely has a forum dedicated to it. A search of Google Groups or Yahoo! Groups can turn up hundreds if not thousands of options. You probably already subscribe to a few.

Look at the forum posts differently. Instead of searching just for the information you need, look at what the most popular subjects are. What are the replies to those popular posts? What are people saying?

Gather the forum post info in a spreadsheet. Take a quick browse of the forum, and arrange the information in a format that is easy to review. I like spreadsheets myself, but you may like Word documents or even written flashcards.

Whatever works for you is fine, just get the information in an organized format that you can review over and over again. Why? This gets you in tune with what your audience wants. When it's time to write, you'll seem to pull ideas out of thin air. In reality, those fresh, fast ideas will be the result of your research and hard work in determining what the hot buttons are in your audience.

Return every so often. Dont become addicted to these forums because you can find some really different characters there. But do go back now and then to find out if any new trends are emerging. For me, a good monthly visit to all the hot spots is more than enough.

Heres a final piece of advice on getting ideas from forums: Push the conversation. If you don't see posts that are controversial, active or interesting, stir the pot a bit. Get people talking by throwing down the gauntlet and taking the opposite side of a widely-accepted idea or concept in your industry. That could unearth some awesome article ideas.
