The two considerations that most impact the ranking of your web site by search engines is, first, the content, and second, the number of quality links to your site. One common way to increase ones rankings is to boost the number of links. The other is to use article marketing which has the effect of boosting content as well as providing links to your site.

Heres how. Lets say you write an article about the ten ways to get rid of mice. You close that article with your name, a short biography, and a link back to your site. You then submit that article to various web sites, blogs and ezines to use it for free. You get the links back to your site, they get expanded content. Win-win. If you want to facilitate and accelerate the process, you can use an article distribution service like iSnare or PhantomWriters to automatically distribute your articles for a small fee.

The benefits, actually, are more than just a link back to your site. The effect is also that you get positioned as an authority with respect to the topic of your article!

A few quick pointers about writing your articles:

Dont write above or below your intended audience. Talking to Unix programmers as if theyre 10 year olds isnt good; nor talking like a university professor 10-year olds.

Watch spelling, grammar and punctuation. If in doubt, get a style guide such as Strunk & White.

Dont make your article a brochure. Too much selling inside the article makes it spam instead of objective prose.
